Measles cases have surpassed another milestone, with more cases in 2025 than in any year since 1991. Experts also note that cases are likely significantly undercounted, as many go unreported.

The CDC confirms that about 69% of the confirmed cases were among children and teens. About 93% of the overall confirmed measles cases were among people who were unvaccinated or whose vaccination status was unknown.

The U.S. eliminated measles in 2000, but as vaccination rates have declined, measles cases have risen. The AAP recommends children receive the two-dose measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccination series for the strongest protection against measles.
